June Lookbook 2018

And just like that, June is over! (...which also means so is the first half of 2018.) Rewind the month with me through a few of my favorite looks.

1. Relaxed in Overalls

(Sunglasses, Francesca's Collection; T-Shirt, Gap; Overalls, Gap)

As I'm sure you've seen by now, overalls have come back as cool - unironically. Making Gap in again one retro trend at a time. They're coolest worn with one strap off, I must say. Overalls add dynamic to any old plain T-shirt, although I must say I think the lavender color stands pretty well on its own too. (They're also a lot more comfortable than regular jean shorts, IMO.)

Unfortunately, as summer goes, it was a cloudy day with intermittent rain, and alas I got stuck shooting this outfit in front of my garage. It was the perfect amount of casual for the quick trip to the coffee shop, though! For that nice, casual day in summer, the overall look is absolutely one of my go-to's - comfortable, yet trendy, without having to try too hard.

2. Fun & Flowy

This outfit was definitely my favorite to shoot - special thanks to my good friend, Elisabetta, for being a patient and fabulous photographer! We headed down to a local trestle

area to film a video for a graduation gift, and ended up exploring the area a little bit, at one point finding ourselves a creek just a little off the beaten path. We saw butterflies and wildflowers with open blue skies surrounding us, and the good sights somehow made the heat bearable. Essentially, we enjoyed the nature and weather we rarely stop to notice, and I couldn't have asked for a better start to summer!

This season, I'm finding myself in love with jumpsuits - this one especially! The flowy pants make them just right for summer weather, and they're a little bit more liberating than dresses. Of course, I paired this gray jumpsuit with a white bralette just to break up the look. A super cute 'fit using practically just one piece - now that's perfect for summer laziness!

Also great for the heat is this two-French braids hairstyle I've been wearing all the time. Even better, they leave you with perfect beachy waves for a second hairstyle when you take them out.

I have to give these sunnies the shoutout they deserve - definitely making me look way cooler than I am! (As stylish as these are though, they are most certainly not the UV protection we should be looking for in summer shades.)

3. Dress Down, Button-Up

Another one of my favorite looks has been wearing slightly-oversized button-ups casually. I wore this short-sleeved, cropped one and let a lacy white bralette peek through. For a contrast of color against all neutrals, I added a red suede-esque scrunchie (handmade by a local teen!).

I can't say that I particularly liked wearing this outfit, but I did like the food I ate in it! A couple friends and I went to a falafel place in a nearby town - a check off our summer bucketlist! The food was absolutely delicious, and for dessert we shared a piece of baklava, a flaky and sweet traditionally Middle Eastern pastry.

4. A Romp(er) in the Heat

Maybe my judgment is biased from the fun I had in this 'fit, but I think this was my favorite of all four June looks! I absolutely adore this romper, and in the same line as jumpsuits, they are just a smidge more hip and trendier than just dresses.

What really makes this outfit are the subtler touches - the necklace, the sunglasses, and most of all, the high pony in the red scrunchie!

I wore this romper to the said grad party we were making the video for, and it was a great way to end the month. There's something so purely wonderful about spending the summer nights with good friends. My heart was so genuinely filled with love for my best friends, and it feels pretty great knowing that June is only the start of summertime.
